When we first moved into the new space at Bow Lane, the first reaction of most people was to remark how big it was. The second – how much work needed doing to make it functional and maybe even, comfortable!
In the last two months a lot has happened, but it is only in the last couple of weeks, that we are starting to see real developments. The main job has been the replacement of the drains at the back of the building. Because we are on the route of a river, the water table is very high in this area, and we could be up to our knees in water, if we didn’t do something urgently.

Then, the pipes go down.
Then, a layer of cement and stones to keep everything in place.
This is the 2nd last layer of plastic to seal the floor – next is the cement pumping!
The job involved excavating the existing floor, putting in new pipes, filling it all in to secure the pipes and finally covering the lot in a layer of concrete. This process is almost finished, and we are hoping to start pumping cement tomorrow or Friday, and to have half our ground floor back to us sometimes next week!
We’re starting to see the light! Soon, this area will be a kitchen and social area for our members and guests.
There was also a lot of material left over from a previous tenant, which needed to be removed to everyone’s satisfaction, and we are pleased to report that the last of that left today – with this gone, we can return to the job of putting our own shelving up, and putting some kind of order on the place.
Costumes under wraps!
In addition, Kelly and JP came in on Sunday last, and reorganised the costumes, by theme, so now w can locate what we need and when we needs it.
Spray painting some grotty old shelves to give them a new lease of life!
Finally for now, we are putting up some new (old) shelves in our practice room, so that we can save some space and yet have the instruments we use every day near at hand.
‘New’ shelves might actually help us minimise the clutter in the music room!
All in all, things are moving in the right direction, albeit, more slowly than anticipated.
