As the year draws to its conclusion, it’s a good time to look over what MaSamba Samba School did in 2011, what music we played, who we worked with, and who we partied with!
This ‘round-up’ blog is not written in any particular order of preference, and we welcome your own comments to complete the story!
The Boys Are Back In Town
This week, saw the last few bits of administration taking place in the huge tidy-up operation after a highly-successful ‘Boys Are Back In Town’ pageant.
All that remains for now, is to say a sincere, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who helped us along the way, whether it was financially, spiritually, in terms of good advice, or just a good old-fashioned dig-out (remember when that wasn’t a dirty word… Read More
Finally, the big day had arrived – the fundraising was over, the costumes ready, the drummers rehearsed, the dance pieces choreographed – it was time to Rock the centre of Dublin!
At 6pm at the Gaiety Theatre it was time for ‘The Boys Are Back In Town!’
The running order was that we would perform the five Thin Lizzy songs with ‘Remembering Lizzy’ outside the Gaiety. Each dance… Read More
It has been a surreal week in MaSamba with that anti-climactic feeling that always follows big events.
‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ went extremely well, and the feedback from the public and professionals alike has been very positive. With the costumes and drums put away, and the rehearsal space more or less back to normal, it has been time to review all the great partnerships created throughout the… Read More

We had another great rehearsal tonight ahead of our big pageant tomorrow.
The last few days have been truly hectic, with all sorts of media activity, rehearsals, meetings, millions of ‘phone calls, and all the fun of the fair, but FINALLY, we are almost there!
Last night, we had a great table quiz in Bruxelles Bar, where we raised over €2000 towards the event. We are so grateful… Read More
We received some excellent news today, in that Universal Music (Ireland) are giving us €5,000 towards our pageant ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’. This is fantastic news, and on top of the great results of our Fund:It campaign, we are almost over the line with our funding for the project, and Universal (who are… Read More
OK, so there is lots of really hard work going on, to make ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ the best-ever Rock Pageant (which should be easy, as it is the first-ever ‘Rock Pageant’).
BUT, there are more and more, really fun, positive things happening along the way, some of which we are allowed tell you about.
Today, our favourite music store in the world, Music Maker,
With less than a week to go to ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, things are really happening on the creative front!
We will have drumming rehearsal three evenings this week, now that the MaSamba massive have flown back from various exotic locations around the world. The arrangements are more or less there, but now it is the less glamorous work of running them again and again and….again, until… Read More
