After a couple of very busy weeks, it was nice to this week to have no events on, and to be able to catch up on the more mundane bits of the work.
Last weekend, we had a great time at the Drogheda Samba Festival. Highlight’s include our parade in amazing sunshine, based on a world cup theme, Cachimbo’s great set in the Purple Room on Sunday, Afro Eire’s set in the same venue on Saturday, super energy and fun from the Samba Mama’s in Pyjamas on West Street on Saturday, and a maracatravaganza(tm) with Maracatu Ilha Brilho, before they head to Paris for the Encontro.
The parade in particular was striking in that many friends, and ex-members showed up along the parade route to cheer us on, and create a real ‘MaSamba Family’ atmosphere! Photos are here.
Also, we must pass on our thanks to the festival organisers for hosting us and the D Hotel for providing free accommodation for 7 of us on the Sunday night.
Next week, we begin into a series of Summer Programme Workshops, including our own series of sessions with children in Dublin, and we are playing at the Munster Hurling Final on Sunday 11th in Thurles.
