The last few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind of activity behind the scenes, while on the surface, things seem to be tipping away as usual!
Firstly, we have been out almost every day delivering workshops with children and young people, working with c. 350 participants each week. This is set to increase in a couple of weeks, when we take on a couple more groups on a weekly basis. By the end of June, we will be working in Donore Avenue, Clondalkin, Smithfield, Finglas, Marino and Crumlin on a weekly basis – it’s great craig, but hard to keep up sometimes!
On top of that, both the community band and the show band have been working away towards some performances in May and June. We now have 8 people leading pieces of music on Wednesdays, and a couple of our youth group are starting to lead pieces too, so the next generation is assured. There are also plenty of new musical ideas in the pipeline, some of which we are hoping to unveil in public very soon!
We have also been in discussions with the guys from Kíla about collaborating with them on some new music. The demos should be arriving in the email any day now, which is all very exciting!
All of this takes resources, and we so lucky to have the support of some of the best brands in the music business helping us out! Contemporanea are sending us some new equipment for the Summer 2012 season, even as we speak, and we are all looking forward to seeing that! Also, on Friday, we received the last elements of our endorsement deal with Sabian cymbals in the form of a Picanté 18″ hand crash cymbal and a hand-hammered triangle – both of which sound amazing. This is on top of a lot of other great Sabian gear we have received over the years, and we can only say that both companies have been amazingly supportive of our work!
It doesn’t end there. We are hoping to be in a position to make a couple of major announcements any day now, about other supports and sponsorship within the next few days – watch this space!
