To say that we have been busy over the last month would be a bit of an understatement, especially with the whole ‘moving building’ thing and all the chaos that entails.
However, this last week has seen us up the pressure another notch, with no less than 3 rehearsals, a workshop for 45 people and 6 gigs to squeeze in.
Over the last two days, we have:
facilitated an amazing performance by some of the younger children at George’s Hill Convent School, in the Markets area of Dublin;
assisted the local community in the Fountain area of Dublin 8 to celebrate Christmas;
led a performance of our HSE Mental Health Group in the Phoenix Centre – this event was witnessed by some of the patients in the facility and many of the staff, and the feedback was so positive, we ended up doing two encores!;
facilitated a spirited performance by the St. James’ NS School Band for their annual Nativity Play;
Facilitated the JCSP Students in Colaiste Eoin, Finglas to perform two excellent pieces of music for their end of year celebration, and;
Performed with the Marino College School Samba Band, as they welcomed guests to their end of year music concert.
It has been an amazing couple of days of witnessing how people from all walks of life and circumstances can embrace music, and work so hard to entertain themselves and others, and honestly, it renews our own faith in the poser of community music.
From tonight, the drums fall silent for a couple of weeks, and the MaSamba crew will end the year with a few well-deserved snacks and drinks at the famous Gingerman Pub tonight!
