Music for Bloco Afro Brasil

July 8th, 2010 by Simeon

Tonight, we had a great rehearsal working on several different grooves. Mainly, however, we are concentrating on some seriously old-school samba reggae rhythms, for our new show – ‘Bloco Afro Brasil’

This show will be an exploration of the roots of the Samba Afro/Samba Reggae movement, with some great new costumes, and some great old grooves.

So far, the set list will include ‘BadauĂ©’ from Ile Aiye, ‘Farao Divinidade do Egito’ & Protesto Olodum II’ from Olodum and this track from semi-unknown band, Raizes do Pelo.

Reggae Sem O Peter

We’ve had this album for over ten years, but the title, which translates as ‘Reggae Without Peter’ is particularly meaningful for us at this time of year, as it was on the 22nd Jule, that we lost our friend and mentor Peter Keenan after a long battle with cancer.

Bloco Afro Brasil may be ‘Reggae Without Peter’, but it won’t be without the spirit of Peter – we can’t wait to get it out on the street!
