World Music and Drumming: A Hands-On Approach to the Curriculum
In association with the Music Department
Exactly as you might think it might be, this course involves hands-on experiences of drumming (samba and djembe) and it links directly with thePlaying Instruments strand of the Primary School Curriculum (1999). However, it also involves listening and responding to a range of musical pieces as well as learning songs from other countries, notably South America and Africa, and discovering ways of interpreting them. As a result of this course, participants will develop the skills to introduce percussion in their classrooms– both untuned (drums) and tuned (e.g., glockenspiels) and gain confidence in promoting music and intercultural education in the classroom.
