586

’586′ is the name of a great song by New Order, who are playing in Dublin tonight. For us, the number has another significance – it’s the amount of children and young people we worked with in the last week!

As previously reported, we have been travelling to Castlebleyney, Co. Monaghan all week, working with five schools there. However, on arrival, we found that, instead of working with one class in each school, some of them wanted us to work with multiple classes in each school, which of course upped the numbers.

Of course, we have our ongoing commitments to teaching projects around Dublin too, so it has been ‘all hands to the pumps’ to make everything happen. We are currently working in Crumlin, Donore Avenue, the Liberties, and we had a very successful once-off session in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, at the invitation of another community musician there.

So, 586 children playing drums with us in one week – that’s probably a record! Let’s see what next week brings!
