Baloobaz in Berlin!

We have safely returned from Berlin, after an excellent long weekend at the Karneval der Kulturen.

Our own show, on the Friday night was a great success, despite a few technical difficulties, and the feedback from the Brasilians and sambistas present was very positive.

We were also honoured by the presence of the Irish Ambassador to Germany, Dan Mulhall and his wife Greta. Both stayed for the whole show, and joined us backstage for a chat afterwards.

Once our own show was over, it was into rehearsals for the Afoxe Loni project with Dudu Tucci. This culminated in a four and a half hour long parade through the streets of Berlin on Sunday 24th May. The sheer size of the bateria (over 100 drummers) created some sound problems, but we prevailed, and despite sunburn, blisters and gallons of sweat, we prevailed.

The remainder of the weekend was spent experiencing a little bit of the city’s culture, as well as catching up with our friends from Sapacaiu no Samba, and ex band member Juliane K. More photos of the weekend can be found here.

There were also rumours of beer and caiprinha consumption, and late night forays to techno clubs, but we cannot comment on those!
