If you’re like us, you’re probably sick of the unending doom and gloom in the media about the ‘financial situation’. MaSamba was set up in the early 90′s when things were pretty tough too, and we got through it somehow, and we’re sure we’ll get through this just the same!
However, one positive in all this mess is the fact that we are making lots of connections with people from our past – in a way, it’s like pressing a re-set button.
One such contact from the past presented itself in a recent meeting with Nial Ring of the Dublin Inner City Trust, which is a charitable trust set up to support community and youth projects in the Inner City. MaSamba received a couple of grants from the Trust right around the time we were setting up our original youth project in 1999/2000, but had not had any interaction with them in some years.
Ironically, just as we are re-starting the youth project, with a whole new group of kids, the Dublin Inner City Trust have come on board with a grant of €500. It’s absolutely fabulous news, and we are hoping to use it for a special summer project to prepare the MaSamba Youth Group for their first performance in the Liberties Festival in July.
We are waiting to finalise details, but we will make an announcement about these gigs very soon!
