MaSamba to receive funding under the Arts Council/Music Network Music Capital Scheme

It has been an exciting time in Masamba over the last few weeks, with the move to the new building and the beginning of a new year.

Now we can report that there is more good news ahead. Masamba has been successful in being granted almost €3000 under the Arts Council/Music Network Music Capital Scheme. This scheme is designed to support the instrument needs of music schools, community bands, etc, and has been very supportive of our work in the past.

Percussion instruments only have a limited life, which is shortened again by the amount of travelling our instruments do and the amount of beginners workshops they are used for. As a result, we always have a wish list of things we would like to fix or replace. This round of funding will provide all new surdos (bass drums) for our community band, along with some new timbas, repiniques and tamborims. We will also be able to buy some new sticks and beaters, as they are something else that tends to get worn out very quickly in Masamba-land!

More importantly, this funding is an endorsement of the work we are doing, and it is great to be supported by an agency that specialises in music, as they are in a good position to assess our work.

The Instrument Capital Scheme is funded by the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, through their support of An Chomhairle Ealaíon. The Scheme is managed by Music Network.
