The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins to Officially Open MaSamba Rehearsal Space

We were delighted to learn last week that the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins will be visiting us in early March.

The President is already MaSamba’s Patron, which has made us feel proud and honoured. When we tell other samba groups around the world, they are amazed that someone in such high office would support a community organisation such as ours, but then, they don’t know the President’s long history of supporting both grassroots organisations and arts groups.

On March 11th, The president will pay a short visit to our new rehearsals space in Bow Lane, tour the building and see the progress and the works in progress and be entertained by some of the best drumming to be found on this Island!

This is what our building looks like right now, but we are assured that the worst of the building work will be complete in good times for the President's visit!

There is still a lot of work to be done in the building, but we are pulling out all the stops, and it will give us a great focus over the next few weeks – a kind of mega spring-clean will take place!

Needless to say, everyone in the band, and on the Board is very excited by the news, and we are looking forward to extending some Irish and Brasilian hospitality to The President on his arrival!
